Up to 8,500 athletes and officials from around 150 nations will compete in 6 cities for 12 days - in 18 different sports. Standards are set here - where the densest university landscape in Europe meets the most sports clubs in Germany, in one exceptionally sport-loving region.

Event Doctor (m/f/d)
 
In freelance work (fee-for-service contract) for the implementing company of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games / Limited with a reason in kind from 13 to 27 July 2025
 
The position is located within the Medical Services department. As an Event Doctor (m/f/d), you are responsible for the medical care of the participating delegation members at the competition venues during the event. The exact date of deployment varies depending on the location and the type of sport.
 
We are hiring for the following locations and sports:
  • Berlin: diving, swimming, volleyball
  • Essen: tennis, archery, basketball, judo, fencing, taekwondo, table tennis, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics
  • Duisburg: rowing, beach volleyball, water polo, basketball
  • Hagen: basketball
  • Bochum: athletics, 3x3 basketball, 3x3 wheelchair basketball
  • Mülheim: badminton

Following tasks are your main focus:

  • Medical care: As an event doctor, you are responsible for the medical care of the delegation members during the entire multisport event. This includes carrying out first aid measures, the professional treatment of sports injuries and diagnostics for targeted medical follow-up treatment.
  • Provision of emergency measures: You must be able to perform emergency procedures and respond effectively to medical emergencies such as specific sports injuries but also heart attacks, strokes, fainting or other acute medical problems.
  • Coordination with paramedics: You will work closely with paramedics and other medical professionals to ensure efficient and coordinated emergency care. This includes communicating and coordinating the referral of patients to hospitals or medical facilities.
  • Preventive measures: In addition to treating injuries, it is your job to take preventive measures to minimize injuries and health problems among athletes.
  • Documentation: You are responsible for the proper documentation of all medical interventions you perform, including injuries, treatments and referrals that take place during the event.

You bring the following skills & knowledge with you:

  • A valid license to practice as a doctor is required
  • Experience in emergency medicine or sports medicine
  • Experience in working with competitive and professional athletes
  • Experience with sport-specific injury patterns
  • Experience in the area of major sporting events
  • Experience in working with other medical professionals (doctors, physiotherapists, and medical service providers)
  • Specialization in orthopaedics, surgery and traumatology
  • Knowledge of English is necessary
  • Professional liability insurance covering the working period is required

The work is remunerated with a net hourly wage of EUR 35. Any travelling expenses incurred during the assignment will be reimbursed in accordance with the provisions of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Travel Expenses Act.
